The Dental Assisting program prepares you for entry-level work in a dental office through classroom instruction, demonstrations, simulated practice and hands-on clinical experience. You’ll train with study models and mannequins before completing supervised clinical work that helps you build the confidence and technical skills needed to support dentists and care for patients.
You will learn how to:
- Prepare patients, treatment areas and equipment for dental procedures
- Assist the dentist during chairside treatment
- Practice infection control, sterilization and dental safety procedures
- Understand OSHA standards and CDC guidelines for dentistry
- Take and process dental radiographs
- Maintain equipment and instruments
- Learn dental anatomy, head and neck structures, pathology and oral diagnosis
- Work with dental materials and restorative procedures
- Support prosthodontic and specialty dental procedures
- Provide oral hygiene and nutrition instruction to patients
- Manage scheduling, records and other dental office administrative duties
- Build professionalism, communication and patient care skills through clinical experience
